Stuttering is not negative or positive, it's just different

Some people just talk differently, and sometimes my words will take a little longer to come out. That is how I explained stuttering to my kids.

The words negative and positive imply that something is less than or greater than something else. People who stutter are not any less or more of a person than someone who does not stutter. We just talk differently.

I encourage you to think about this frame of mind, whether you are a person who stutters or someone who may encounter one of us. Society doesn’t always have to be about who’s better or worse than the next person.  We are all different, and the way we talk is one of those differences.
